Description

Tagetes Essential Oil, Botanical Name Tagetes Minuta, extracted from Tagetes's flower by steam distillation. Tagetes Essential Oil is best known for its ability to keep insects away. It is also credited by aromatherapists as helping with parasitic and fungal issues, while also being able to facilitate the flow of mucous and loosening congestion. It has also been used on cuts, sores, and bunions, occasionally used in the treatment of corns, verrucas, etc., Tagetes is essentially a weed with deeply divided, dark green leaves with numerous ornamental yellowish orange carnation like flowers. Colour in oil is reddish amber. It is easily classified as sweet, fruity and almost citrus like. Tagetes Essential Oil is a toxic oil, containing a very high proportion of ketones. It also contains some furocoumarins, which are photosensitising agents.

Treatment :

Antimicrobe action is valuable for keeping disease carrying mosquitoes and files at bay and possibly helping to keep a check on infected bites. Seems to have an affinity with the respiratory system, dilates the bronchi, facilitating flow of mucus and dislodges congestion. May help relieve coughs, and also to be effective against ear infections. Appears to ease aches and pains as well as sprains and strains, Its sedative action could help to bring down high blood pressure.

Effect On Skin :

A useful oil, it would seem, for dealing with skin infections particularly suppurations. Its healing effect on wounds and cuts, callouses and bunions is probably due to its ability to soothe inflammatory conditions. May also help to clear fungal infections.

Precautions: It is very powerful oil and should be used sparingly. It should also be avoided during pregnancy, and not used on sensitive skin. May also cause photosensitivity.
