Spikenard Essential Oil, Botanical Name Nardostachys Jatamansi, extract from Spikenard's root by steam distillation. has been prized for its healing properties and perfume since antiquity. It always been valued as a perfume, medicinal herb and in skin care. The oil is helpful for allergic skin reactions and all kinds or rashes. Being a balancing oil, it can be used in facial massage and skin care preparations for all types of skin particularly valuable for mature skin. The Spikenard Essential Oil redresses the skin's physiological balance and causes permanent regeneration.

It is described that Spikenard Essential Oil as warming, drying and diuretic and good for heavy periods, vaginal discharges, kidney and liver problems, inflammation of all kinds and for dispersing accumulated toxins. It does have a balancing effect on the menstrual cycle. And it is an antifungal oil, so it could be useful to combat the candida albicans organisms. It might be worth trying Spikenard for the treatment of cellulite, as it is diuretic and detoxifying, but also because it is a deeply relaxing oil and cellulite is made worse by stress. It may help hormone imbalances, sometimes associated with cellulite. It is certainly a wonderful oil for anybody tense and anxious, and has the ability, rather like Frankincense, to help people emotional blocks that they are holding inside. Aromatherapists who work with charka energy or auric massage would find this a very appropriate oil.

It is an aromatic herb with a most unusual root system from a single root it develops two kinds of shoots, one of them an underground flower shoot or rhizome, in which most of the essential oil is found. The oil is extracted by steam distillation, and ranges from pale to deep amber in color. The main constituents are bronyl acetate, isobornyl valerianate, borneol, patchouli, alcohol, terpineol and eugenol. The smell is very hard to define which is deep, peaty and earthy.

Blend well with Lavender Essential Oil, Patchouli Essential Oil, Pine Essential Oil, Vetiver Essential Oil. The note is Middle.
