Description

Orange Bitter Essential oil botanical name Citrus Aurantium Amara, extract from Orange Bitter's peel by cool pressed. The Orange Bitter oil is warmer and more rounded in aroma, while also carry some of the bitterness of grapefruit, with feeling of jollity about it.

Its extracted by simple pressure from the outer, coloured part of the peel, from both the Bitter Orange and the Sweet Orange. The oil is a deep golden yellow with the characteristic orange peel aroma. The active constituents are mainly limonene with smaller amounts of bergaptene, citral, citronellal, myrcene, etc. the composition and proportions varying somewhat between the sweet and bitter varieties. The Bitter Orange gives an oil with a slightly more delicate aroma than the Sweet Orange.

Orange Bitter oil Benefits It seems to carry with it some of the sunshine needed for its ripening, it is a wonderful oil to use in the winter. It is very cheering as a winter bath oil. Blends well with Myrrh, Clary Sage, Lemon, Cinnamon, Nutmeg or Clove especially, and also, surprisingly, with Lavender and Frankincense. Orange is a good oil to combat insomnia, and can be alternated with Lavender, Neroli or blended with either of them if there is a need for long-term treatment, since it is always wise to vary the oils used over a period of time.

Orange appears to have a normalizing effect on the peristaltic action of the intestines, for it is recommended for the treatment of constipation and helping chronic diarrhea, also antispasmodic and stomachic.

Treating Mental and Emotional The properties of orange bitter is very similar to the sweet orange, the properties range being antidepressant and mildly sedative.
