Description
Myrrh Essential Oil, Botanical Name Commiphora Myrrha,extract from Myrrh's resin by steam distillation. Myrrh was highly valued as a healing ointment for wounds, antiseptic, healing and anti-inflammatory. It is specially valuable for wounds that are slow to heal, and for weepy skin conditions, including weepy eczema and athlete's foot. In fact that Myrrh is fungicidal is a double benefit. It heals cracked and chapped skin and just put a little Myrrh in creams for deep cracks on the heels and heavy duty hand creams. Because of the antifungal action, it can be used in a vaginal douche against thrush. It will eliminate the itch and discharge effectively, but thought should also be given to the underlying Candida infection which leads to these symptoms.
Myrrh is quickly heals mouth ulcers and good for gum disorders. It is used in many brands of toothpaste for its beneficial effects on the gums. Used in massage or in inhalations can treating chest infections, catarrh, chronic bronchitis, colds and sore throats. It is a very good pulmonary antiseptic, expectorant and astringent, and has a drying action on excess mucus. Myrrh is the liquid resin is exuded from natural cracks or cuts in the trunk and sets into irregularly shaped brownish-red lumps. An essential oil is extracted from the resin by steam distillation, though most of the Myrrh available for aromatherapy is a resinoid, extracted from the raw resin with solvents. The oil ranges from pale to dark amber in colour and the active principles include limonene, dipentene, pinene, eugenol, cinnamaldehyde, cadinene, acetic acid, myrrholic acid and a number of resins. The raw resin is very thick and sticky. Both the resinoid and the essential oil have a hot, smoky, bitter aromatic smell.
