Ylang Ylang Essential Oil, Botanical Name Cananga Odorata, extract from Ylang Ylang's flower by steam distillation. The most important physical property of Ylang Ylang Essential Oil is its ability to slow down over-rapid breathing and over-rapid heartbeat. These symptoms may appear when somebody is shocked, frightened or anxious, and immediate use of it can be very helpful in such circumstances. It also is one of the oils which will help to reduce high blood-pressure, often found in association with hyperpnoea or tachycardia. Ylang Ylang Essential Oil used widely in perfumery and cosmetics, and is suitable for both dry and oily skins, having a balancing action on the secretion of sebum. It is thought to have a tonic effect on the scalp. Like Jasmine, Rose and Sandalwood oils, Ylang Ylang Essential Oil is antidepressant, aphrodisiac and sedative, it can be used to help sexual difficulties, for these are so often the result of stress and anxiety. The calming and relaxing effect of Ylang Ylang Essential Oil may be responsible for its designation as an aphrodisiac, as it can be used, wisely, to break the vicious circle of anxiety about sexual inadequacy.

A small tropical tree has pink, mauve and yellow-flowered varieties, The best and finest essential oil of all is obtained from yellow flowers picked in early summer, and early in the morning. The first part of the oil which is drawn off during the steam distillation process is of the highest quality, while that which comes from the latter part of the process is of a poorer grade. In either case, the therapeutic properties are the same, but the perfume of latter part oil is less refined. Oils contain methyl benzoate, methyl salicilate, eugenol, geraniol, linalool, safrol, ylangol, terpenes, pinene, benzyl acetate, and a combination of acetic, benzoic, formic, salicylic and valeric acids. The oil varies from almost colorless to a pale yellow, and the aroma is extremely heavy and sweet.
