Palmarosa Essential Oil has a long history in Indian medicine of use against fevers and infectious diseases. It is a very powerful, wide spectrum bactericide but particularly active against various bacteria responsible for intestinal infections, such as gastroenteritis, it will kill Escherichia coli bacteria in 5 minutes. Another use is as a digestive stimulant, excellent for loss of appetite and sluggish digestion. Palmarosa is probably best known as a valuable skincare oil, hydrating and stimulating and helping to balance sebum production. Palmarosa contain a number of elements which are found in rarer and more costly plants and give them their characteristic odour. its contains a high proportion of geranial and has a gentle perfume somewhere between those of Geranium and Rose. The oil is obtained by steam distillation and in pale yellow color, sometimes with a greenish tint. Its active constituents are mainly geranial, between 75-95% with traces of citronellol, farnesol. geranyl acetate, etc. Blends well with a wide range of other oils, floral, woody and citrus.
