Pine Essential Oil, botanical name Pinus Massoniana, extract from Pine's needles and twigs by steam distillation. The chief uses of Pine are in the treatment of respiratory and urinary tract infections and muscular pain. It is expectorant and a very powerful pulmonary antiseptic, helpful for bronchitis and all coughs. Use it several times a day. preferably in steam inhalations. Inhalations of Pine are good for colds, catarrh, sinusitis and sore throats and it can either be used alone, or mixed with Eucalyptus or Tea Tree. Pine is refreshing, deodorant, stimulating and relieves muscular pain used in the bath. It has a stimulating effect on the circulation, and is sometimes used to relieve the pain of rheumatism and arthritis, as well as muscular aches from over-exertion.

Essential oil of Pine is obtained from several species of Pine and it is very important to know the source of the oil, with its botanical name, as there are other species and varieties of Pine with very different properties and uses. The best quality is considered to be that from trees grown as far north as possible. The oil is produced by dry distillation of the needles and sometimes the young twigs and cones. An inferior oil can be made from the wood but should not be used in aromatherapy. The oil is very pale yellow with s strong, fresh, resinous aroma. Main constituent is pinene, carvene, sylvestrene, borneol, camphene, dipentene, phellandrene and other elements. The exact composition depends on the variety used, and to some extent the region of origin.
