Cinnamon Bark Essential Oil
Botanical name Cinnamomum Zeylanicum, extract from Cinnamon's bark by steam distillation. The Cinnamon bark essential oil smells like the familiar spice, while that from the leaf smells more like cloves.
Cinnamon essential oil benefit
Can be obtained from this bark by steam distillation and also from the leaves. It is very important to distinguish between the two, as the oil from the bark is very strong skin irritant and should never be used on the skin. That from the leaf is as irritant too, but not so powerful and can be used on the skin with caution, small amounts and very well diluted. If you are offered Cinnamon oil that is not labeled with the part of the tree from which it is obtained, you really do need to know which you are dealing with. Leaf oil is usually cheaper than Cinnamon Bark.
It is antispasmodic and helps with many digestive problems, sluggish digestion, stomach and intestinal cramps, colitis, flatulence, nausea and diarrhea. It is helpful for menstrual cramps, used in a hot compress, perhaps blend with Clay. Cinnamon helps to relieve aches and chilling in the curly stages of colds and flu, giving during the winner to strengthen and help resist seasonal infections. The oil must not be taken internally, and even greater care must be taken when using it on the skin.
